From the lay-by, head down the gravel track, taking the path to the right over a stile, following the wire fence on your left. When you get to the reed bed, look for the stepping stones to avoid the mud
Go through the gap in the low ridge, and do not head for the solitary tree but take the path to the right. The path moves slightly downhill, and in some places wooden duckboards are in place to keep you out of the mud. One the other side of the reeds, you should reach a stile in a wall, with a signpost marking the start of the access area
Follow this path, roughly due south, gently uphill over open moorland and through the gateposts from the ruined wall
The path heads SSE, and you reach a small yellow iron post marked 'Bolton Corporation'. From here, take the path SSW to the stile in the wall below the horizon. . Over the stile, carry on to the trig point - the stones on the way represent all that is left of a Bronze Age stone circle. The path passes the trig point, taking you to a fence/wall junction. Take the path on the left of the wall, down through the woods. Past the barn below the woods, do not go left or right along the track but head straight on for the two wooden posts in line with the church spire |
This will bring you up to another gravel track, and taking this to the left will take you back to the car
