From the car park in the village go up the lane and when you coem to the farmyard, follow the track round the right hand side of the barn. After a while you have the River Derwent on your left. Cross the river at New Bridge, then follow the track up and across the field and up Lingy Bank

Where this path joints the larger Allerdale Ramble path, follow this to your left, round into Tongue Gill. Near the Climbing hut, cross the Gill at the footbridge and carry on up past Rigghead Quarries.

Above the quarries, where the ground levels, cross the wire fence and continue to head west, passing over the north side of Dalehead Tarn, and take the fairly obvious path which takes you round the back of Dalehead Crags and to the Cairn at the summit

dalehead tarnFrom the cairn it is an (almost !) straight line, just east of due south, to descend to the road at Honister Hause, then left down the road. There are a number of places where a path on the left allows you to stay off the road, and then the path moves off the road. summit cairnAt the path junction above Seatoller, where you come round once again to the path for the Allerdale Ramble, follow this path right for a short while, then fork left down and across the slope, which takes you down to the back of Glaramara

This path continues through the woods, and where it becomes rocky and runs alongside the River Derwent, there is a wire handrail in place to keep ypu out of the river. Shortly after that, pass through the grounds of the youth hostel, take the bridge over the river and go left down the track and throught the fields to return to Rosthwaite
