Amazing how quite and remote it can seem so close to Ullswater. Not to strenuous, though I think my companions thought differently ! NB this route gives you a long ascent and a short, steep descent - you may prefer to go the other way round

From the Glenridding car park, head south down the A592, past the lakeside, taking the track for Side Farm. At the farm, go through the farmyard and take the track to the left. This track becomes a footpath once you have passed the campsite, and really has some gorgeous views down the length of the lake and across to Glenridding

Just before Sandwick, we double back. starting to head up Place Fell from the far side. An easily followed path takes you up to High Knott,
where we sat and had lunch, watching the lake cruisers below us and Buzzards flying above us. From there, the path curves under High Dodd on your left. and then at the saddle between High Dodd and Place Fell, take the path to the right, which eventually takes you up to the trig point at the top of Place Fell |
|
From here, a well defined path takes you round Round How, and then steeply down to Boredale Hause, then back to Side Farm, from whence you trace your steps back to Glenridding and a well deserved drink
